Ujjwala Raut has added yet another feather in her cap. The Paris-based supermodel has bagged a modelling contract of Yves Saint Laurent cosmetics, the ad for which will be out in high-end international magazines this month. “It’s a big campaign,” says Ujjwala from Paris, where she’s just arrived after a whirlwind New York fashion season. She will be in Mumbai next week for a much-needed break.
The YSL campaign is not the only big news she has, but she can’t talk of the other project till it hits the market. What she will talk about are the number of big-name designers she has worked for. “Hugo Boss, Roberto Cavalli, Missoni, Bally... all in Milan,” she rattles off. Editorials too span the gamut of fashion magazines, including the prestigious Italian Vogue. And the ramp has seen her walk for Michael Kors and Victoria’s Secret. “Though my base is Paris, I alternate between New York, London, and Milan as well,” says Ujjwala.
Working in the four fashion capitals hasn’t fazed her. Her English has acquired the polish of continental living, but not her personality.
The last time the 20-something Ujjwala was down in Mumbai, she brought along her boyfriend, Scotsman Craig Sterry. The two are going strong, just as her career is. “I’m coming down because I need to rest, meet my friends, have a blast,” she says. “Basically, to chill out.”
